Laser Detection Aid

Sometimes it's difficult to detect cavities, especially in the pits and grooves on the biting surfaces of the back teeth.

The traditional way to check for cavities has been to look for visual signs of decay, checking x-rays, or feeling for soft areas with a dental explorer.

However, we now have a tool called the DIAGNOdent that helps us locate even the smallest amount of decay.

DIAGNOdent uses laser technology to detect hidden dental caries by measuring laser fluorescence within teeth. Clean healthy teeth exhibit little or no fluorescence, while altered tooth substances and bacteria, including caries, will fluoresce.

The DIAGNOdent is an extremely accurate, reliable and non-invasive method to aid in cavity detection. The device has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the American Dental Association.
